MNDR‘s track “Fade to Black” was featured as the Song of the Day on Lizzyville.com.
…MNDR’s “Fade to Black” is a pretty stunning IDM track that I had the pleasure of hearing at Littlefield on Saturday during the Girls’ Guide to Rocking event. She’s like Annie but, dare I say it, better, though she has fewer notches on her belt.

Psychobuildings EP now available

After releasing two killer singles last year NYC’s Psychobuildings unveil their first 12″ record in EP format. Just shy of 20 minutes this slab of vinyl showcases the band’s already unbeatable dance numbers as well as some finely constructed psychedelic trance inducers heard previously only in their much buzzed about live set. Balancing New Romantic synth explorations with the beat boxing lyricism of Old School Hip-Hop Psychobuildings have come up sounding fresh in delivery and style. Front man Peter LaBier brings the guts back into pop with a feel for groove and and an ear for hooks. His spirited vocals recall legendary post-punk singers like Robert Smith and David Byrne while his frenetic dance moves would make the King of Pop smile. Produced by the band, mixed by hit making sound engineer Peter Wade and fleshed out by the synth wizardry of Peter Schuette and multi-instrumentalist Juan Pieczanski, the self-titled EP fires on all cylinders from start to finish.
Pre-order Psychobuildings EP, available in CD or 12″ vinyl. Street date is July 12th, 2011.

Rai Knight: New New (MNDR 4-Track Remix)
MNDR has just remixed Rai Knight’s “New New” in Wade and Warner’s lo-fi “4-Track” remix style. The remix was composed and recorded on 4 tracks of analog tape using Rai’s original vocal edited in ProTools. Wade’s Yamaha RX5 drum machine provided the back beat and was layered with spring reverb and delay directly to tape. Then synths were overdubbed (Voyager and SE-1) through UA 2-610′s and a vintage Omnipressor.
The remix was mixed at WonderSound by Emmett Farley.

Making of Remix of "Hannah" For Freelance Whales Benefit EP
After the devastating earthquake in Japan, WonderSound friends The Freelance Whales asked us to participate in a benefit EP to help Japan rebuild. We remixed “Hannah” and here’s how we did it.
The remix was programmed primarily on a Roland Jupiter 6 analog synth tracked through a Universal Audio 2-610 and Distressor. I cut up the original drums from the session, re-amped them, and layered them with 12 bit drum samples from my Yamaha RX5 drum machine. The concept was to build slowly, drop everything out and then experience a brain overload where we throw everything at it. With a stunning mix from studio engineer Emmett Farley, the remix of the popular single “Hannah” was born.

MNDR – “Cut Me Out” (4-Track Dub Version)
MNDR has released a surprise new breakdown of pop track “Cut Me Out.” Producer Peter Wade created this exclusive driving Dub version, specifically for Green Label Sound fans. It’s MNDR remixing MNDR and it’s free for download here!
Drums were sequenced on a Linn Drum and tracked right to analog 1/2″ tape with spring and delay printed live. Wade and Warner then laid live bass guitar, synths and hand claps recorded with natural reverb from the front hall of Wade’s former studio “LaBronze Johnson”. Two original heavily processed Jupiter-6 sounds were created to make up the synth bassline and pads. Then the FX were overdubbed while Warner kicked and prodded the spring reverb tank and Wade dialed up delay throws.

MNDR music video debut in "Bang Bang Bang"
MNDR’s Amanda Warner is making her music video debut in Mark Ronson’s first single “Bang Bang Bang”. The video was directed by Warren Fu and also features Q-Tip along with some intergalactic breakdancers and other party-goers.
Pitchfork proclaims MNDR "Best New Music"
MNDR was given Pitchforks’s “Best New Music” stamp in their review of “I Go Away” from her debut EP.
Brooklyn’s Amanda Warner makes dynamic electro-pop under the moniker MNDR, and she’s been building buzz with her project while also working with folks like Mark Ronson. “I Go Away”, a major highlight from the her debut EP, E.P.E., is filled with distinctive synths that melt all over a spare, echoing drum beat like a candy house left out in the hot sun. It’s a serious slow-dance pop confection, but Warner keeps a clear head lyrically. “I Go Away” initially sounds like a post-relationship-fallout slow burner, as she asks, “How did I get here/ Without feeling anything”. Soon, though, you realize that she isn’t calming down– she’s getting pumped up. “This is my anthem/ I know it like I know everything”, Warner softly declares, as if she’s getting ready to step out in front of the curtain, before letting out titular squeaks during a chorus that favorably evokes Santigold as the track builds to its cathartic peak.
Take a listen for yourself here.

MNDR gets the royal treatment from King of the Gigabitches
Music blog King of the Gigabitches wrote another great review of MNDR’s show at Bowery Ballroom last night. Not gonna paraphrase, just check it out:
How did I just find out about you last night? I can’t really say much about what was going on stage because I was too busy texting my friends in DC about you. I’d like you to teach a course to every other New York “dance” artist out there on how to work a stage. How to use Ableton to sequence your set to that each tracks flows to the next. How to use visuals. Basically, just how to “be.” Get them out. Get them out of music venues and get them into raves. Teach them how people fucking dance…
You did all of this with a 102-degree fever? Fuck. Just. Fuck. I am almost angry that I had never seen you before.

VIllage Voice rocks out with MNDR
MNDR played a great show with V.V. Brown and Class Actress at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC last night and The Village Voice was on hand to soak it all in. They really loved her projections, calling it a “a hell of a mind-bending spectacle going behind her, a mixture of Atari-style blocky stuff and digital Spirograph fantasias synced up to respond to both her voice and, ideally, ours.” Though of course that’s nothing without “her muscular, blaring gearhead-techno anthems, with startlingly gooey pop centers, are rousing enough; the mighty ‘Fade to Black’ especially.”
As a physical presence, too, Warner is fascinating, with her blocky white glasses and slightly regal, slightly nerdy air, gripping her mic stand with authority and vogue-ing with aplomb. She casually mentions that she was in the ER last night with a fever of 102; her set actually climaxes between songs, where she tests the whole voice-activated light show thing, wherein we all scream and the screen behind her slowly turns solid white. “Now we’re all connected, like string theory,” she announces, satisfied. “Even though string theory is kinda fake.”

MNDR featured in SESAC's Spring 2010 Magazine
SESAC just featured MNDR in their Spring 2010 Magazine. Tracking Amanda’s growth from North Dakota to playing with the band Triangle in California’s Bay Area to her work with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs to striking out as front person for MNDR.
“I make music every day, even if it doesn’t lead anywhere,” she says. “Peter and I will start making sketches in the studio, and things will start to develop. The only rule is that I want to avoid the ‘I want to make a song that sounds like this’ trap. The lyrics come along as the song gets built – I’ll usually have a picture or a story in my head, and together we’ll just kind of let it take us where it will.”

NME, MNDR, SXSW
It was a congregation of abbreviations when NME stopped MNDR to talk about her music at SXSW.
I found out later on that she’s a professional ‘top-line’ writer for numerous mahoosive major label popstars. Combine that fact with a nifty sideline in serious minimal techno disc-spinning and all the pieces of her puzzle begin to fall ever-so-neatly into place. We got chatting afterwards. We covered the same conversational ground you’d expect with any lektro-pop hopeful. Y’know; Black Flag, world economics etc.
Watch video of MNDR live at SXSW and her interview with NME here.
Huffington Post gives MNDR "Best Show" at SXSW
The Huffington Post ran it’s SXSW follow up article today and listed MNDR as “Best Show”.
The best show I saw all week was put on by one lady band MNDR, a modern-era, Janis Joplin-esque songstress who took the stage with crystals hanging from her neck and a safety pin barely keeping her shirt on.
It’s just her and her keyboard and a boatload of enthusiasm. There weren’t more than 40 people there to see her perform but she brought the funk like it was Madison Square Garden. And every time the beat dropped — a beat she has no doubt heard hundreds, if not thousands of times — she reacted with so much joy it was like she had just been kissed by a puppy.
Check out their full review of MNDR’s set and the rest of the superlatives here.
Chicago Reader follows MNDR down to Austin
MNDR was featured as the first SXSW report on the Chicago Reader. They loved Warner’s “hi-NRG techno-pop heat” and emotional resonance with mohawked teenagers.
I feel like the only place really suited for MNDR is a stadium, on a bill between Rihanna and Gwen Stefani. I feel like she’s the people’s Rihanna, up from jazz dork to glam dazzle. She whipped her glasses off accidentally and played it off as a dance move and everyone cheered.

Examiner.com has an eye on MNDR
Examiner.com’s picks for what to see at SXSW, including Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Spoon, and MNDR. Here’s what they had to say about MNDR:
And don’t overlook MNDR just because of today’s daytime show. This one-woman act will break-out the beats no matter how high the sun. She’s opened for some of the biggest names in independent music, but in Austin she’s going her own way with dance tracks right on the edge of early techno and current synth-pop. MNDR plays tomorrow’s SESAC party, BrooklynVegan’s day party on Friday and the Grand Life/VICE party on Saturday. Don’t worry, work on the debut MNDR album is underway with producer Peter Wade.

The Cedar loves MNDR
The Cedar Music Blog just posted a write up of MNDR’s show with Bobby Birdman and Yacht at Carlton College. They loved the show and said:
It definitely helps that Birdman and MNDR are both total hotties. MNDR sounds like the techno-y version of my fave musician, Mikhaela Yvonne Maricich, who performs as The Blow. Both put on one woman shows with undeniably catchy beats.

MNDR aces it with The Village Voice's SXSW cheat sheat
The Village Voice selected MNDR as one of the top New York-based acts to see for their “SXSW Cheat Sheet 2010″. With shows lined up over the week, you’ll be able to experience what the Village Voice did firsthand:
Sneaking onto a snoozy recent Mercury Lounge lineup of charisma-less “chillwave” wallflowers, flagrantly nerdy electro-diva MNDR dropped like a bomb, with an enormous pair of glasses, an epilepsy-inducing light show, some fantastic dance-pop jams (“Fade to Black” especially), and a bombastic, unignorable personality: “OK, seriously, you can move to this music! This is techno!” The Fader is in love with her, and rightly so: An apparent tech-head, she can build you an amp out of spare parts and then blast all manner of engrossing egghead dance-floor ephemera through it. Here’s your Lady Gaga in training, if she doesn’t morph into something weirder, flashier, better.
Check out the rest of the list here and of course, catch MNDR at upcoming SXSW performances.
MNDR top 10 band-to-see at SXSW
The Princeton Record Exchange Blog listed MNDR as one of the top ten bands to see at this years upcoming South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas.
She’s the one-woman show that has been slowly stealing the hearts of hipsters everywhere. To see her on stage is something else — tables of computers, keyboards and wires — it looks like some kind of ninth grade physics project. What blasts out of the speakers are well crafted mixes of electro-pop and dance, literally making it impossible to stand still. Match this energy with MNDR’s voice, which is both understated and intoxicating, and what you have is the perfect vibe for that basement party you’ve been meaning to throw.

MNDR exposed by Full Frontal Fashion
MNDR’s Amanda Warner was interviewed by Full Frontal Fashion about her glasses, favorite jewelry store, and her thoughts on the new year.
This tall spire of awesome with the fluffed-out blonde cloud of hair and giant white eyeglasses (love, love, love them) put on the most incredible, dance-crazy show I have seen in a while at Coco 66 this past weekend. Before I saw her, I had heard two tracks and was totally feeling it, but I have to say that seeing her break it down live, with a goemetric light show flickering over her to the beat of her voice, is a whole different and amazing thing. MNDR is little bit M.I.A., a little bit Cyndi Lauper, a whole lot exactly what my iPod has been dying for.

Chicago Reader Writes MNDR
Jessica Hopper at The Chicago Reader wrote up a piece on MNDR in anticipation for the sold out show with Yacht at The Empty Bottle on February 27th.
MNDR is Amanda Warner, who has voyaged from Portland to Minneapolis to Oakland to Brooklyn, along the way studying jazz bass at Macalester College, backing Sean “Har Mar Superstar” Tillman in his project Sean Na Na, playing winsome, toothy indietronica with Triangle, and wrecking brains in the Bay Area art-rave scene. Now she’s making a go of it as a solo act: she’s both producer and singer of MNDR’s authoritative and approachable experimental club music, and she’s formidable on both fronts. She makes seamless, studied bump, with plenty of fuzzed-out artful bits that underscore rather than obscure her hooks; she’s sort of like Diplo and the Missing Persons’ Dale Bozzio rolled into one. YACHT headlines; MNDR and Bobby Birdman open.
