David Heatley - My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down

David Heatley - My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down

One of the most promising young talents in cartooning makes his solo musical debut with an imaginative collection of songs. “My Brain is Hanging Upside Down” by David Heatley is the soundtrack to his internationally released eponymous graphic memoir, and represents the first collaboration between Heatley and Grammy Award-winning music producer, Peter Wade.

The release features two versions of the title Ramones track and a sampling of original material that compliments the wicked humor, virile energy and raw honesty of the book. Rounding out the collection are two hip hop songs inspired by Heatley’s mid-90s music venture under the guise of “Boy Wonder,” a re-interpretation of the Heatley classic “Suburban White Girls,” written when he was nineteen, and the brand new “Right To Feel High,” destined to be this year’s pop hit (or at least its underground party jam). With guest appearances by DJ Big Wiz, Tom Haslow of Action Painters, and Heatley’s father — (worthy of his own chapter in the book) — on background vocals, this is surely the soundtrack of the century!

Long a fixture in comic anthologies, David Heatley’s vibrant, brightly observant drawings have appeared on the New York Times op-ed pages and the cover of the New Yorker. “My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down” is his first book and first musical release since the 90′s when The Velvet Cactus Society released two albums on Shimmydisc.

My Brain is Hanging Upside Down now at Amazon and iTunes.
